Yamaha Motor Europe held a press conference at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari circuit in Imola, Italy, ahead of the fifteenth round of the MXGP World Championship to officially announce its strategic racing plan and new team structure for the 2020 FIM Motocross World Championship.

The press release is posted in full below… Hans Corvers’ Monster Energy Kemea Yamaha MX2 team will maintain their place as the factory branch in the development class, but the name will become Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 with Jago Geerts and Ben Watson back on the bikes. This is sort of a surprise, as many expected Seewer to move to a different brand in 2020 the same way Romain Febvre will it was announced last week that Yamaha and Febvre will split at the end of 2019.Īs for the MX2 class, it’s mostly a change in official name for the team. Gautier Paulin and Arnaud Tonus, current riders on the Wilvo squad, will retain their/move to spots on the new Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP team, and Jeremy Seewer will return to the factory team thanks to a new contract with the manufacturer.

Wilvo is a Dutch company that specializes in sheet metal fabrication and the race team has become known as a well-managed and well-funded partner for Yamaha. It’s been discussed for years in the MXGP paddock that the company would transition out of the race team operation, and the recent rise in performance by Louis Vosters’ Wilvo operation has been selected as the best replacement. Headed by Michele Rinaldi, the Italian-based company manages Yamaha Factory R&D and is an important element of the manufacturer’s business in Europe. In addition to this, the Monster Energy Kemea Yamaha MX2 team will be renamed the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 team and will retain Jago Geerts and Ben Watson as their riders for the 2020 race season. With Rinaldi Racing out, Monster Energy Wilvo Yamaha MXGP Official team will become the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP team, handle day to day operations, and field Jeremy Seewer, Gautier Paulin, and Arnaud Tonus in the MXGP class. Rinaldi Racing, after twenty-years as the official racing team in MXGP, will now step into a development role for the YZ450FM and YZ250FM motorcycles.
